Firearms, ammunition and explosives

 

 

In the area of firearms, ammunition, explosives and fireworks and within its competence, the Inspectorate carries out inspections on the implementation of the provisions of the Firearms Act, Explosive Substances Act and of the regulations issued on the basis of these laws.

 

Inspections in the area of firearms and ammunition are performed at firearms dealers, gunmakers or legal entities possessing security, hunting or sporting weapons (security companies, rifle and hunting associations or other rifle organizations). The inspection predominantly focuses on:

  • verifying status matters,
  • verifying the fulfilment of the general requirements for the keeping or trading of firearms,
  • verifying the appropriateness of the business premises intended for firearms trading,
  • verifying the appropriateness of firearms and ammunition storerooms and the places where firearms and ammunition are kept ,
  • verifying whether the persons directly working with firearms fulfil the conditions for performing these activities and
  • inspecting the prescribed records and other documentation concerning firearms and ammunition, firearms buyers and the persons who were provided with firearms.

Inspections in the area of explosives and fireworks are performed at legal entities and sole traders producing, purchasing, selling, storing, unloading, using or destroying explosives and arranging and implementing fireworks. The inspection focuses mainly on:

  • verifying the fulfilment of the requirements for producing, purchasing, selling, storing or using explosives,
  • verifying whether the responsible persons and persons directly working with explosives fulfil the prescribed requirements,
  • verifying the appropriateness of facilities, premises, working places where explosives are being produced, stored, purchased and sold, used or destroyed,
  • inspecting the prescribed records and other documentation concerning explosives (technical adequacy of explosives, appropriate packaging and labelling) and
  • preparation and carrying out of firework displays at public gatherings.
